My practice, Anderson-Eye Studios, is built on a simple belief: the best visual work comes from deep attention—to history, to structure, and to the quiet details most others overlook.
I’ve spent years blending traditional drawing, archival research, and architectural thinking into a style that is both precise and deeply human. Whether I’m reconstructing a lost 18th-century structure, drafting a historical map, or designing a visual narrative, I approach every project with the same mindset: clarity, craft, and respect for the subject matter.
Clients come to me when they want more than decoration—they want work that means something, that’s grounded in knowledge, and that’s executed with care.

THE RESEARCH METHOD
The finished image is
only the final step.
Great historical illustration is earned in the archives, not assumed at the drafting board. Behind every line is a rigorous process of primary investigation—corroborating 18th-century survey plats, period timber framing, and topographical data against the historical record. Visual clarity requires historical certainty; what appears on paper is simply the final, vetted conclusion of that inquiry.
Primary source scholarship & evidence
Every project begins with archival investigation and physical evidence. Before drawing a single line, I examine primary sources—from Historic Structure Reports, period cartography, and land deeds to military journals, probate claims, and surviving site footprints. Bringing physical evidence into conversation with its historical context creates a carefully documented foundation for the visual work.
Fieldwork & sketchbook interpretation
Research moves to paper through field studies and compositional sketches. Terrain, architecture, and historical accounts are brought together to test spatial relationships and explore how the evidence can be translated into a coherent visual interpretation.
Revision & evidence-based refinement
Evidence guides the artwork—not artistic guesswork. As documentation is evaluated, initial compositions are challenged, adjusted, and refined. The aim is an image that communicates clearly while remaining accountable to the historical record.
Every decision has a reason.
I record the rationale behind major visual decisions in a formal Reconstruction Register. Primary accounts, competing interpretations, and the reasoning behind the final reconstruction remain visible and traceable for the client.
